Sea Blue 66 Restocal
Thought i'd post up my project. Car is a Sea Blue 1966 1300. Was a owned by the same guy for the first 30 years (and spent a fair bit of this time in Eastbourne), before being sold on. The second owner replaced A pillars floor plans and channels, but rest was kept as original. Was then sold on again and purchased by me in 2006 from Redding and brought back down to Eastbourne. Car came with a bit of history in the shape of the original bill of sale, original handbook, with all work that was performed on the car for the first 20 or so years, plus details of "mileage mark" journeys i.e. 77,777, 100,000 etc. Also has the original dealer plaque on the passenger door

Re: Sea Blue 66 Restocal
Car came with some nice accessories such as a Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio
And some "Desmo" sunvisors
If antone has any details on the visors it would be greatfully recieved as i've yet to see another set. I know that they are early 60s as they are marked "Desmo Birmingham" and the Birmingham factory burnt down in the early 60s so they must predate this. Also know that Desmo produced a number of items that were not VW specific but we most well known for mirrors and statue emblems. Beyond this i haven't been able to find out much.
Car is generally solid but whith Tatty paintwork and wings needed replacing as well as the deck lid and the passenger side door, so a couple of months ago i decided to take it off the road and start work on it.
This is what it looked like before strip down

Re: Sea Blue 66 Restocal
And a few hours later
Have managed to source a californian passenger door to replace the scabby one that was on it, as well as a new deck lid, and in the process of sorting the wings. Drivers door and boonet will need a bit of work but should both be OK.
OK, the plan is to go down the restocal route, so the car will be totally stock except for ride height, wheels and tyres and a few accesories. This car is also being built on a budget, so where possible i am trying to restore rather than replace in order to keep it stock, for example
Before
After

Re: Sea Blue 66 Restocal
As for suspension etc. the plan is for a 5" narrowed front beam, dropped spindles, lowered rear end with eagle empi 5s (which i now have) with 145/65s up front and 205/65s at the back
Car is currently garaged up
And other parts such as the rear screen, deck lid etc have been removed.
In keeping with the budget theme i will be doing the paint myself.
Car will be remaining L360 sea blue and will be sprayed using cellulose paint, which whilst not as tuff as 2K will be a lot easier for me to work with, plus the car will always be garaged, so should prove suitable.
Current job at the moment is the labourious task of removing the underseal from the inner wings.
Anyway i'll keep it updated as to how i'm getting on.

Re: Sea Blue 66 Restocal
Paul,
Looking good mate.
Come on then, give us timescales for when she will be back on the road!!!
And if you need the front seat covers done, I can get them finished in London Bus fabric if you like!!!!
Keep us posted mate.

Re: Sea Blue 66 Restocal
Cheers for the offer on the seat covers but wouldn't want to be copying your style!
Time line will now be chalvington '08 (only a year longer than planned!).... probably.
